What is Mediating Movies?

Mediating Movies is a film blog that answers questions about character motivation. Expect spoilers.

  • Why did Michael Corleone kill his brother?
  • Did Oliver really love Felix in Saltburn?
  • What makes Jack Torrence attack his family in the Overlook Hotel?

Each article answers the question in a literal way first and then explores the underlying meaning with supportive evidence. I also introduce symbolism and character arcs that validate this point of view.

I maintain a mediator’s perspective, which takes all sides of a story into account. Mediators are neutral facilitators who help guide conflict resolution.

Who writes Mediating Movies?

My name is Katherine Flores. By day, I’m a family mediator. In my sessions, family members learn to engage healthy boundaries, active listening skills, and ways to practice empathetic understanding.

The work I do comes in handy when considering movie characters and their conflicts. That’s why I created Mediating Movies. Conflict is my playground and fictional characters make great playmates.
